World Trade Center I-Beam Travels to Fort Collins, CO

Poudre Fire Authority (PFA) in Fort Collins, CO has been granted the privilege of owning one of the last pieces of a World Trade Center I-beam.

The five-foot long, 3,500 pound piece of steel was part of one of the World Trade Center walls, and is one of the last pieces that is being given to a fire department. The I-beam will reside at one of PFA’s fire stations to honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001 including the 343 FDNY firefighters.

The beam begins its journey in New York on Wednesday, October 21 at JFK Airport. Representatives from the Fire Department of New York, including Rescue 4; the Terry Fund; and the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey will be on hand to watch it begin its trek from New York to Colorado across I-80.

The map will be updated every 30 minutes as the World Trade Center I-beam travels to Fort Collins, CO.

This event will be tracked and updated from NYC to Fort Collins as the team is escorted by over 100 different Emergency Service Agencies, including Patriot Guard Riders and American Veterans, and will be celebrated and honored as the steel passes through each town along the way.

As the team approaches Fort Collins on Saturday, October 24, there will be a procession led by Poudre Fire Authority to one of the fire houses where it will stay until a permanent memorial is built.
